                                                                   Student Process

General :

Ø  Students can apply to be in one of the following BSED/MSED Programs:

1)      Childhood Education/Special Education (1-6)

2)      Childhood Education/Literacy (B-6)

3)      Adolescent Education/Literacy (5-12)

 

Ø  To be accepted into the program, student must:

1)      Have an overall (cumulative) GPA of a 3.20 or higher

2)      Complete an application

3)      Schedule an interview

 

Ø  Students must attend the Orientation meeting in the Fall semester or Spring semester depending on when they were accepted into the program.  Students will receive information about the BSED/MSED Program and learn about the process and its requirements.

 

Ø  Students will schedule an advisement appointment with the 5-Year Advisor each semester when advisement takes place (two/academic year) until they officially graduate from the program (at the end of the 5th year).  Additional advisement may be requested if needed.

IMPORTANT NOTICES :

 

Ø  This is a FIVE YEAR program.  Failure to complete the program in the five year allotment will result in automatic dismissal.  Summer classes may be required to finish on time depending on student’s individual academic history. 

 

Ø  Students will only be FULLY ENDORSED (New York State Teacher Certification) upon completion of the five-year program.  Students will not receive endorsement after four years while enrolled in a five year program. 

 

Ø  If you receive 2 incompletes in a graduate course, you will not be able to move on and will be removed from the program.
