Summer Graduate Program in
Italy
St. John’s School of Education Offers Graduate Students A New
Approach to Teaching in Italy Study Abroad Program
Now in its fourth year, this
three-credit summer abroad program correlates the artful
masterpieces of the Renaissance era at Italy’s prominent Arte
Spirituale Museum and the Rezzato Center for the Arts to the
well-known Italian teaching methods. Participants attended
educational sites, seminars and workshops, observed teachers in
activities with three to six- years olds and met with fellow
educators and administrators.
“The travel abroad program was a wonderful learning experience for
all of us,” states Dr. Smita Guha, Associate Professor in the
School of Education. “This program helps graduate students broaden
their horizons and provide a deeper understanding of pre-school
education in Italy. Each year we include additional content and
educational options to the existing module.”
Winter Italy Service Learning Program -
Italy
This
non-credit program is a truly unique opportunity to partake in
a Vincentian Mission of Service at St. John’s! You will
travel to Rome, Italy for one week, spending part of each of five
days working with Caritas Roma on projects relating to poverty and
aiding victims of crisis. Each day you will visit a different
program to see firsthand the struggles and the day to day life of
people in need.
At the end of this program, you will have gained a once in a
lifetime experience working with people who struggle on a daily
basis. Through service learning, you will have merged the classroom
with world, and integrated global education into their St. John’s
experience.
