The School of Education Hosts Maureen A. Hartigan COACH Program

March 04, 2008

The Maureen A. Hartigan COACH Program on February 26, 2008 brought 75 students and 5 alumni to participate in this annual event, designed to provide students with guidance, insight and practical interviewing skills as they embark upon their careers in the field of Education.

The forum was established in 1988 by Anne Hartigan Flynn, Grace Hartigan Klinger and Catherine Hartigan McNicholl in memory of their sister Maureen A. Hartigan, to provide partial annual scholarship support to a full-time undergraduate student who has achieved sophomore, junior or senior status in the School of Education. This year’s scholarship winner was Raquel Estevez a junior with a 3.85GPA.

The students received valuable advice from this year’s keynote speaker Dr. Rita Stein, author and consultant, who discussed resume writing and interviewing skills. COACH is an acronym for "Count On Alumni for Career Help."  The five St. John's University alumni who guided several students through mock interviews were LarryBurke `73Ed, `77GEd, Mary Fritz `54Ed, `84PD, `93EdD, Maureen Henry `82GEd, Steve Rosenberg, `73GED and Brenda Williams-Jackson `01EdD. Students can take this valuable information to The School of Education Job Fair which is scheduled for April 3, 2008 on the Queens Campus in Council Hall.
