It is so hard to look back on the trip to South Africa and pick
out what my best experience was. I would have to say it was at
the last elementary school we went to. We were able to spend a few
hours at the school and to truly connect with the children. We were
able to sing, dance, and play with the children. I truly loved
spending time with the younger children. I was able to hand feed
one child and rock another to sleep. It was just so rewarding. I
felt as if I was someone that those two children were able to feel
comfortable with. Also, when Dean Willis, Ms. Foukalas and
Juliet, came back with all of the food and clothes for the
children, to see the principals reaction was beyond amazing. She
was brought to tears which automatically brought me to tears. It
was so rewarding that just by her reaction, everything was worth
it. I am so happy that I was a part of something that truly helped
a whole school. That school will be stocked with food and clothing
for the children; even if only for a little while; and I was a part
of that. That whole day at the elementary school was great because
I spent time with children and I felt as if I was almost like a
mother figure to them by feeding and rocking the children, and
being able to see the principal’s reaction was just so amazing. I
am forever thankful.
