One of the most memorable experiences I had in South Africa was painting a playground at in Cape Town. When we first arrived, I was struck by the beautiful natural scenery around us, but was simultaneously saddened by the harsh living conditions in the surrounding areas. We painted for a few hours to bring some love and some life into the playground, writing inspiring words and hopeful sayings so that the kids could see them every day. I had a wonderful time painting, and decided to take a few photos so that I could better remember that experience. However, the best memory from the day came when I snuck into the center itself to play with the children. After jumping around with the two and three year olds, I showed them the pictures of their brand new playground. Their faces and exclamations of delight gave me the most wonderful feeling of accomplishment and joy.  I am so happy to bring a little bit of happiness into these kid’s lives, and it’s a day that I will never forget.
