On May 1st, 2012, The School of Education
hosted The Dean’s Convocation in Carnesecca Arena on the Queens
Campus. Over 450 students, faculty, administrators, family,
friends, and staff were in attendance to honor the graduates in The
School of Education who have surpassed academic and extracurricular
expectations in this annual awards ceremony. Graduate and
undergraduate students were award recipients along with principals,
faculty, and parents.
The Keynote Speaker of the night and Principal of New Britain
High School, Michael Foran, bestowed words of wisdom to the current
and future educators honored at the ceremony. He advocated for
strong relationships with students, the importance of connecting
what is taught in the classroom to real life, future learning, and
high expectations for student performance. Student speaker, Thomas
King, also emphasized the significance of service for all educators
and the mark teachers leave on their students. He encouraged all
recipients to continue learning and teaching throughout their
careers in becoming the best educators out there.
The end of the ceremony concluded with a red carpet photo shoot
and ice cream giveaway. Dr. Jerrold Ross, Dean of The School of
Education and host of the convocation granted a memorable evening
for all involved.
