In
today’s hectic and stressful world, we often throw our health and
well-being on the backburner. But at St. John’s University’s Women
and Wellness event, fitness took center stage as over 100 alumnae
and friends learned techniques to improve their mind, body and
spirit.

“This event is wonderful because it allows so many women to set
aside some time and recharge their batteries,” said Marilena
Minucci, Assistant Director for Wellness Education. “And the
breakout sessions held throughout the day help them get inspired to
take better care of themselves in new and exciting ways.”
The program featured workshops covering topics such as yoga,
healthy eating, aromatherapy and stress reduction. Guests learned
how to eat healthy – even when in a rush – and tasted samples of
low-fat, high-protein smoothies. Additionally, the ladies had the
opportunity to tone their bodies while having fun through Zumba and
belly-dancing sessions.
“I
was thrilled that this year’s program offered such a variety of
activities,” said Lisa Anzisi Lasagne ’82P. “In particular, I loved
both the Zumba lesson and the healthy-eating program. I learned
tips that I’m going to try and include in my everyday
routine.”
Gina Hemenes ’06CPS agreed and noted that it was an especially fun
event because it brought her back to campus.
“It’s always great to come back here for events,” she said. “This
program was not only informative, but it also brought me together
with so many of my fellow alumnae. It was inspiring and will
definitely motivate me to continue to keep my health and wellness
in focus.”
