The Bi-Annual Forum Presents Bishop Frank J. Caggiano,
March 25
St. John’s University’s The School of Education, celebrating its
100th Anniversary during the 2008-09 school year, will host its
bi-annual Carol Gresser Forum on Wednesday, March 25 at 6:30 p.m.
in Bent Hall (room 277 A and B) on the Queens Campus. The Forum
features a guest lecture by Bishop Frank J. Caggiano, Vicar General
of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Bishop Caggiano will be addressing New
York City’s superintendents, principals, and teachers on New York
City’s education reform.
Bishop Caggiano will talk specifically about importance of
preserving Catholic Education, highlighting “the unique mission and
contribution that Catholic education provides and that public
schools and charter schools do not.”
Bishop Caggiano was appointed the Vicar General and Moderator of
the Curia of the Diocese of Brooklyn on January 1, 2007. This is in
addition to his appointment as Vicar for Evangelization and
pastoral Life on July 1, 2004. Bishop Caggiano enjoys both writing
and teaching on scripture and theological and spiritual issues. His
doctoral dissertation, “The Eschatological Implications of the
Notion of Recreation in the works of St. Cyril of Alexandria,” and
“The Exaltation of Christ: The Meaning of ‘At the Right Hand’ in
the New Testament,” were published by Gregorian university.
The School of Education at St. John’s University established the
Carol Gresser Forum in 1998. Held twice a year, the forum is
named for the former President of the New York City Board of
Education and Queens resident, who now serves as a professor of
education at St. John's.
