Federal Judge Joseph Bianco is November Visiting Jurist

November 08, 2006

November 8, 2006 – Eastern District Judge Joseph F. Bianco, one of the newest and youngest members of the federal bench, visited St. John's last night as the November Visiting Jurist.  In a spirited, wide-ranging, and entertaining conversation, Judge Bianco regaled students with stories about what it is like to be a “new judge.”  He also described his approach to judging, answered questions about his experiences as a terrorism prosecutor, and spoke fondly about teaching National Security and the Law.

Judge Bianco’s talk was part of the School of Law’s Visiting Jurist Program, which brings a different judge to campus each month for an informal presentation to the student body on a topic of the judge's choosing.  Following the presentation, the judge stays for dinner with a small group of faculty and students.

In the past five years, the Visiting Jurist Program has brought over thirty federal judges to St. John’s.  The next Visiting Jurist will be Judith S. Kaye, Chief Judge of the State of New York, who will visit the law school on January 29, 2007, as the Judge Joseph W. Bellacosa Distinguished Jurist in Residence.
