PHY 1080: Our Planet

Course Description

An integrated, descriptive study of our planet, stressing the principles of plate tectonics. Students will understand the theories and principles which define the formation of the earth, its interior, its landscape, and its development over time. We will cover the topics of volcanic, erosive, igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic processes along with plate tectonic, stream, underground water, ocean and glacial processes and activities.

During the course we will be using a website with links to online message boards, e-mail, online documents, discussions designed to develop the student's scientific thinking regarding earth processes, hyperlinks to various scientific sites with interactive online activities such as models and livecams, and the use of the CD-ROMs which are included with the textbook for reading assignments
