Dr. Marotta has been teaching English at St. John's since 1968. A Manhattan College graduate, he received his Ph.D. from the City University of New York in 1972. At St. John's he has taught a wide variety of courses, including Composition and Rhetoric, Business Writing, survey courses in English, American, and World literature, Contemporary Literature, Mythology and Literature, and Medieval Storytelling. He has also developed and taught courses in popular literature: Fantasy and Fiction and The Literature of Mystery and Detection. His current research interests include the relation between art and literature, legal issues in medieval literature, and theories of fantasy and the fantastic. He has published essays and articles on topics such as detective fiction, Shakespeare, medieval German narrative poetry, and contemporary rock music. He also co-authored a business writing textbook with Dr. Jack Franzetti. Since 1998 Dr. Marotta has been using WebCT for several online courses.
