Caralina Lawless ’17
Location is Everything
Location is everything. Thanks to St. John’s focus on global studies, Caralina Lawless ‘17C has explored sites around the world. “I’ve been lucky to travel to Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Paris, and Rome,” said the Marietta, CA, native.
“I’ve learned about those places by meeting the people and doing service activities. It’s given me the opportunity to think more critically about the world around us.” Lawless, a dual major in history and communications, is a student in the University’s Ozanam Scholars Program. When she’s not globetrotting, she feels at home on and around St. John’s Staten Island campus, which is near where her mom grew up and much of her family lives.
"My interest in service began in high school," she said. "However, our service trip to Puerto Rico really gave me a new perspective on what social justice means on a global scale."
