Students in the Department of Art and Design participate in a variety of events, workshops and clubs throughout their four years at St. John's. The Department, with the collaboration of the St. John's University Learning Community, plans a variety of activities and workshops throughout the academic year including: monthly “art film fest”, trips to museums and galleries throughout NYC, additional out-of-class workshops in printing, portfolio preparation, gallery installations, and framing.

In addition the Department hosts a variety of lectures throughout the year that include cutting edge professionals in the fields of fine art, graphic design, photography, and illustration.

Students enrolled in the BFA program are also encouraged to participate in University clubs and publications that will enrich their experience as artists and add valuable content to their resumes.

A student-ran Art Club also plans many activities for all art-inspired university students. Trips to interesting art spots in NYC such as the famed Five Pointz, MOMA’s PS1, and the HighLine are some of the outings that will take place this year.

The university gallery, located in Sun Yat Sen Hall, hosts a wide variety of exhibitions throughout the year. The Annual BFA Student Exhibition is held at this gallery. Our BFA photography majors who are accepted in either the General Studies Certificate Program or the Photojournalism Certificate Program at ICP also participate in annual exhibitions at the International Center of Photography School in NYC and our senior thesis students currently have their senior exhibition at the renown Dorsky Gallery in Long Island City.
