Overview

Since September 11, 2001, there have been dramatic changes in law enforcement and throughout American society.  Terrorism, new and advanced technologies, and international crime networks have led to seismic changes in the Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Professions.

These changes have created significant leadership challenges and it is clear that our survival as a free and democratic nation will depend in part on our ability to produce a new generation of principled and exceptional leaders in the Homeland Security, Criminal Justice, and Corporate and Institutional Security.

The Combined BS/MPS in Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Leadership provides qualified undergraduates with the opportunity to earn this unique graduate degree over a five-year period.  By pursuing this Combined Undergraduate and Graduate Degree, students will save a year of tuition payments and expedite their entry into the work force.

The Combined BS/MPS Program is offered at both the Queens and Staten Island Campuses.

Admission

You should apply to the dual B.S/M.P.S. program during the second semester of your sophomore year, in consultation with your undergraduate advisor and the graduate dean. Qualified candidates for the program meet the same entrance requirements for all College of Professional Studies graduate programs, which include an overall 3.0 undergraduate GPA and a minimum 3.5 GPA in at least four undergraduate courses in Criminal Justice. You are expected to maintain grades commensurate with the requirements for entry into this dual degree program while enrolled.

During your fifth year of study, you may qualify for a graduate assistantship.

Career Outcomes

An expanding variety of career-track opportunities are available to graduates in the Homeland Security Profession, the Police Service, Correctional Services, Court Administration, Corporate and Institutional Security, Fraud Investigations, Counterterrorism and Intelligence--among numerous other challenging and rewarding job opportunities.  These jobs are at the local, state, and federal levels of government and also in the private and nonprofit sectors.
