Middle States Commission Final Report 2006

Dorothy E. Habben, Ph.D.
Vice President and Secretary of the University

I am pleased to advise you that the Final Report from the Middle States team that visited in March has now been received. The report, which is addressed to the Faculty, Administration, Trustees, and Students of St. John’s,  is available to download in the Related Links box on the right.

As you will note, the report is extremely positive. In particular, the team commended the openness and thoroughness of our self-study and endorsed the recommendations which we ourselves had made to enhance the areas that were the focus of that self-study:

  • Mission, with a focus on Vincentian mission
  • Assessment, with a focus on learning outcomes assessment
  • Residence Life
  • Technology

The University was found to be in compliance with all of the standards for accreditation as set forth in Middle States’ guiding document, Characteristics of Excellence.

As part of the reaccreditation process, Middle States requires that the University provide a formal response to the team’s report. Father Harrington has done that, and his letter to the Middle States Commission is posted with the report in the Related Links box. His letter states that we have accepted the report as written. He also expressed the University’s gratitude for the collegiality that marked the work of the team and permeates every segment of the report.

I encourage you to read this important Report. In the weeks and months ahead, we shall be implementing its recommendations as part of our overall planning/institutional improvement process.
