"Objects and Memory" Documentary by Jon Fein

The Director of "Objects and Memory", Jon Fein reflects on the making of this documentary in the aftermath of 9/11.

"The Objects and Memory Project began when I saw that historians and curators were working while history was unfolding in the aftermath of 9/11.  Following this dramatic human story led to the realization that we all hold onto things which may not have monetary value or mean much to someone else, but for us are irreplaceable.  The Objects and Memory documentary film was broadcast nationally as PBS's prime time special in commemoration of the seventh anniversary of 9/11 (and has been rebroadcast several times since then). The film is about how we preserve the past and speak to the future through the otherwise ordinary things in our homes and museums that are associated with people, places, and events.  With narration by Frank Langella and music by Philip Glass, Objects and Memory invites viewers to consider what they value most, how we respond to history while it is happening, and how we form communities across time.
