Public Safety: Keep Fire Doors Closed

October 16, 2012

Safety is a top priority for the University and we ask that all faculty, students and staff actively participate to ensure the safety of our campuses. Public Safety has noted the practice of propping open the fire doors in some of our buildings.

These fire doors are located in hallways and stairwells and have self-closing mechanisms that should not be tampered with. The purpose of the fire doors is to contain fire and smoke and to protect the integrity of exit stairwells in the event of a fire.

Propping open these doors puts building occupants in danger and violates the fire code. If you see a self-closing fire door being held open, please notify Public Safety immediately.

If you have a question regarding a possible violation, please call Public Safety for clarification and investigation.
