Queens, NY - For the second year in a row, St. John’s University
has ranked in the Top 10 among “Most Unwired College Campuses” in a
survey conducted by the Intel Corporation.
The survey’s findings are based on the percentage of each
college campus that is covered by wireless technology, the number
of undergraduate students and the computer to student ratio for
each school. St. John’s moved up three places from a year ago
currently ranked seventh among schools with an enrollment of more
than 1,000 students.
Last year many campuses reported limited wireless network
capabilities. The survey reveals 74% of this year’s Top 50 schools
have 100% wireless network coverage on campus, up from 14% of the
Top 50 schools in 2004. On the average, 98% of the Top 50 campuses
are covered by a wireless network up from 64% from one year
ago.
Data for the survey was gathered from university interviews,
public documents and additional industry sources; the “America’s
Most Connected Campuses” ranking conducted by Princeton Review and
published in Forbes; and an outline survey that schools completed
between May 1 and September 1, 2005 which was executed by the
Center for Digital Education and Intel Corporation.
