St. John’s students will once again spend time serving our
neighbors in Philadelphia.
There are two opportunities to join the Philadelphia Plunge:
The Philadelphia Plunge provides students the opportunity to
serve in an urban setting and learn more about Vincentian works.
The student volunteer’s work is varied from day to day with time
spent helping in urban charities such as soup kitchens, nursing
homes, after school program, housing rehabilitation, and
more. During their time in Philadelphia, student volunteers
stay at the Vincent DePaul Center in the Germantown section of
Volunteers can expect the following:
- Five days of service away from home with a group of your
- Simple living
- Daily Reflection
Applicants are responsible for the following:
application due on or before the deadline
- Attend an interview if invited to do so
Selected Volunteers are responsible for the following:
- For the January Plunge, attend one fall mandatory formation
- For the May Plunge, attend one spring mandatory formation
- Payment and fundraising efforts as determined by the group
- Signed travel waiver
The cost is $60 plus an additional fundraised amount that will
be determined by the group. This will help with the cost of
all travel, lodging and meal expenses.
