Jamaica, NY - St. John's University announced today it received more than 15,000 applications for the Fall 2003 semester, the largest ever in University history, and enrolled almost 3,000 new freshmen in the class of 2007.
"Once again, we see the proof of the value of a St. John's diploma," said Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M., President of St. John's. "Since the inception of our Master Plan in the early 1990s, to the continuing fruition of that vision - through residence halls, improved technology and enhancements to our curriculum, our progress has been noted across the country and around the globe. From our New York campuses in Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan and Oakdale to our international campus in Rome, Italy, St. John's is again seen as a place where students can learn, grow and prepare themselves for a successful career and a successful life."
For Fall 2003, St. John's remained one of the largest Catholic universities in the United States, with a total enrollment of 19,777 students from more than 41 states and 112 countries around the globe.
"More than ever, we are a diverse university, and one that reflects the true nature of the working world," said Glenn Sklarin, Vice President for Enrollment Management. "From the day they enter St. John's, our students receive an education with a truly global outlook because they study and interact with people from all around the world."
At St. John's University education is not only about career preparation but about learning to make a difference in the world. In addition to rigorous academic study, there is a focus on direct experience helping those less fortunate, which is at the core of our Vincentian heritage. With a total enrollment of more than 19,000 students, St. John's University operates five campuses: in Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan and Oakdale in New York and in Rome, Italy. The University has six schools and colleges and offers associate, baccalaureate, master's, doctoral and professional degrees.
