Domenica Sabella ‘10G: Graduate Success at Rome Campus Forges Path to Foreign Service

February 25, 2010

A desire to see the world — and to make her place in it — brought 24-year-old Domenica Sabella ‘10G to majestic Rome, Italy. Two years ago, the recent college graduate found a job in the press office at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. The experience convinced her that, with the right graduate degree, she could build a career in foreign relations.

Domenica chose the Rome campus of St. John’s University as her path to success. St. John’s, she said, was well-known as “the only American university in Rome” offering an M.A. degree program with a concentration in International Relations.  Today, she enjoys the many advantages of studying at the Rome campus. “The courses give you outstanding preparation for a Foreign Service career,” said Domenica. “Then there’s the experiential aspect — students have access to internships and other opportunities at the U.S. Embassy and United Nations-related agencies.”

The Rome campus of St. John’s University opened in 1995, offering students the academic resources of St. John’s University combined with the cultural and professional advantages of the Eternal City. The campus prepares leaders for today’s global society through the M.A. in Government and Politics and the M.B.A. program, which provide an in-depth understanding of international economic and political systems.

Along with a new campus in Paris, France, the Rome campus also offers courses and housing for students in St. John’s extensive study abroad programs. There are semester, summer and winter courses in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America and Africa. Through St. John’s innovative Discover the World program, students can earn 15 credits living, learning and serving in three European cities in a single semester.
