More than 850 students, faculty, staff and guests gathered on
the Great Lawn at St. John’s University’s Queens, NY, campus this
month for a luncheon celebrating the official renaming of the College
of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
The University changed the name from the College of Pharmacy and
Allied Health Professions to stress the school’s dual focus on
cutting-edge research as well as career preparation.

“The luncheon allowed us to showcase the College and the wider
variety of programs we have to offer,” said Sawanee Khongsawatwaja,
Associate Dean, Administration and Fiscal Affairs. “It was also an
occasion to introduce our newly appointed acting dean, Dr.
Zito.”
“It was wonderful to meet and engage with our students, faculty
and staff while celebrating the renaming of the College — and the
growth and opportunities that it represents,” said Acting Dean
S. William Zito ’66P, Ph.D., Professor of
Pharmaceutical Sciences and Associate Dean for Assessment and
Planning.
A variety of campus organizations turned out for the luncheon,
held on Thursday, September 6. They included
Rho Chi, the pharmacy honor society; the American Association of
Pharmaceutical Scientists; and the Lambda Kappa Sigma Sorority.
“This was a great way for students to become more involved here on
campus and within their major,” said Shanta Ramkeesoon ’16P,
President of Lambda Kappa Sigma Sorority. “I enjoyed speaking with
faculty, and letting them know all about our organization and what
we stand for.”
The College was established in 1929 and has earned a national
and international reputation for preparing students for careers as
pharmacists, allied health professionals and research
scientists.
