Special Collections

There are several collections of note in the Libraries of St. John's University. The following information is designed to acquaint students, faculty and visiting researchers with the resources available.

Access to the different collections is readily granted to all the members of the University community and visiting researchers by appointment.

Requests for photocopying and interlibrary loans are not accepted. We welcome correspondence regarding holdings or limited research from available sources. All printed material is fully catalogued and searchable on the Library's Online Public Access Catalog.

The handsomely appointed Special Collections Room on the fourth floor of St. Augustine Hall (Room 408) is in itself the repository of several separate collections. This rather formal, red carpeted and wood panelled room, lined with bookcases along the full length of its longer walls, houses most of the rare and limited edition books at St. John's University. There is a free-standing exhibit case for University-related memorabilia and other non-book materials, as well as four large free-standing counter-high bookcases for oversized books. Four Whitehall armchairs and two reading lamps make it an inviting place for relaxed reading and tables in the center provide ample work space for both library users and staff.
