REDNet Instructions
We recommend that before you try to dial-up and access REDNet you go to any St. John's University Computer Lab to make sure that your account is working and to set up a secured password, if necessary.
Step 1: Double-click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop.
Step 2: Double-click "Dial Up Networking." If you do not have this option in "My Computer," do the following: click the "Start" button, click "Settings," click "Control Panel," and then click "Dial Up Networking."
Step 3: Click "Make New Connection."
Step 4: Enter either (718) 298-8010 or (718) 883-8040 in the Area Code and Telephone Number fields.
Step 5: Name your new dial-up connection REDNet and select your modem.
Step 6: Click on "Finish."
Step 7: You have now created a dial-up profile for REDNet. There should be an icon on your desktop named "REDNet." To connect to REDNet, make sure your modem is connected to a telephone line and double-click the REDNet icon.
Step 8: Enter your St. John's username/password when prompted and then click the Connect button and wait for the Connection Confirmation Window to close.
Tip: Since the number of telephone lines to REDNet is limited, you may experience times when the lines are busy. Try again at different times of the day before reporting busy signals as a problem.
Note: If the Connection Confirmation Window does not close there will be an error message. It is helpful when reporting problems to indicate exactly what the error message says. If you have persistent connection problems please call the St. John's University Computer Labs for assistance.
You now have internet access through REDNet when you open your browser and you can use any of the St. John's Libraries' electronic resources.
If you have problems or questions, call the St. John's University Computer Labs at (718) 990-6672 or (718) 990-6748 for assistance.
