Summer 2008:Due to renovations in the Queens Main Library, the
Media Center is closed from May 19 - August 25
The Media Center, located on the Queens campus, is a service
area of the University Libraries and provides instructional
materials University-wide; equipment, in-Center.
The Collection
Materials
The collection includes more than 3,000 video
and DVD titles, supportive of curriculum and research. All patrons
with current St. John’s ID may borrow materials. All holdings are
available for use on both the Queens and Staten Island
campuses.
Any faculty may make suggestions for purchase by sending requests
to the Media Center. Materials are generally first obtained for
preview to determine content, technical quality and worth. Faculty
are alerted by e-mail, when their requested titles arrive.
Facilities
Located within the Media Center are individualized stations
equipped with VCR and DVD players, as well as a preview room for
small groups. There are also several patron computer terminals
available.
Searching
All Media Center materials are included in the Library's Online
Public Access Catalog (OPAC). Search the catalog as you would any
of the Libraries’ holdings and do a Quick Limit of videorecording.
DVDs will also show up under this limit.
Reserves
Faculty may put their own or the Center’s DVDs/videos on reserve in
the Media Center for their students to view. (Please note this
location is not the Reserve area used for books, journals,
etc.)
