The Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) (http://www.sec.gov/edaux/searches.htm is an independent, non-partisan, quasi-judicial regulatory agency with responsibility for administering the federal securities laws. The Commission also regulates firms engaged in the purchase or sale of securities, people who provide investment advice, and investment companies. EDGAR, the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system, performs automated collection, validation, indexing, acceptance, and forwarding of submissions by companies and others who are required by law to file forms with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Not all documents filed with the Commission by public companies will be available on EDGAR. Companies have been phased in to EDGAR filing over a three-year period, ending May 6, 1996. Non-electronic filings, and filings made prior to 1994, will not be available online.

SEDAR (http://www.sedar.com/homepage.htm) contains publicly accessible information and documents filed with the securities commissions by Canadian public companies and mutual funds as well as related third parties, all of whom are required to file disclosure documents and other information electronically. Not all documents filed with the securities commissions are available in the SEDAR Database. There are some documents filed by public companies or related third parties that continue to be filed and disseminated in paper format only
