A Unique Opportunity to Experience the World While Making a World of Difference!

St. John’s University has created a bold new program that will provide a select group of scholars with a unique and innovative learning experience. The Ozanam Scholars Program is designed to allow students to work in small groups with dedicated faculty to contribute to solving real world problems in local, national and international communities.

In a global society in which geographic boundaries continue to dissolve through ongoing advances in communications and technology, St. John’s is committed to enable Ozanam Scholars to partner with faculty, community leaders and leading experts to aid in identifying and providing solutions to alleviating poverty and social injustice on local, national and international levels.

The curriculum is rigorous, the service experience inspiring and the outcomes incredibly rewarding! Ozanam Scholars spend a semester or year at a clinical site that might be located right here in New York City or at one of many other locations across the nation or in Europe, Latin America or Africa! In each setting, Ozanam Scholars apply their academic and research skills to help improve the living conditions of the community’s disadvantaged. The Scholars help create, implement, and assess plans to alleviate these problems and assist in producing new research and solution-based publications and materials to advance the work and contributions of others who are equally dedicated to eliminating global poverty.

A cohort of Ozanam Scholars begins in freshman year with each student receiving a $10,000 scholarship renewable annually for the four-year program. A cohort of faculty members serve as mentors providing close supervision and support. No matter your choice of major, faculty will work with you to design an individualized program of study and service that will be unique and rewarding.

This bold initiative and opportunity is available to the select few who are chosen each academic year. If you believe you possess the energy and dedication to take up the challenge of this fascinating program that combines academic rigor, faculty engagement in small group settings and a commitment to people in real need around the globe, the Ozanam Scholars Program is the right choice for you!
