Dr. James M. Keane, the Assistant Provost and Director of the
Academic Service- Learning/Ozanam Scholar’s Program, has been with
the St. John’s community for the past 6 years. He began as an
Associate Director in the Freshman Center and when the Academic
Service-Learning Department was moved to the Office of the Provost,
Dr. Keane became the Assistant Provost. He works with Mr. John D.
Carrion and Ms. Lorrette Ayers in teaching the Discover New York
course for the Ozanam Scholars.
“This year I hope to expand the inclusion of Academic
Service-Learning throughout the University curriculum as well as
implement creative programs such as the possibility of an Academic
Service-Learning Capstone (Ozanam Scholar’s final research project)
and additional options for community-based research projects. For
the Ozanam Scholar’s Program I hope to work with students to build
competence in the areas of social justice and Academic
Service-Learning, Vincentian Spirituality, and research skills
needed to successfully complete a capstone project,” said Dr.
Keane. (keanej1@stjohns.edu)
