Nature and Purpose of Agency
The center works with Latino immigrants advising them on labor rights, immigration, tenant-landlord cases as well as coordinating cultural events.  Tepeyac is devoted to inform, organize, and educate Mexican and Latino immigrants and their families about rights, resources, develop community leaders and organizations.

Tasks Available for Students

Human Rights - Immigration
This person will be in charge of a campaign development for the immigrant legalization. Requirements: Knowledge of Word, Excel, Internet and emails.

Human Rights - Laboral
This person will be in charge of the development of the labor clinics and orient clients about laboral laws. Requirements: Knowledge of Word, Excel, Internet and emails.

Marketing - Public Relations
This person will work with the development director. Duties: develop a public relations strategy to contact and invite elected officials, institutions, celebrities and stakeholders to Tepeyac programs and events. Send letters, e mails, and information to stakeholders regard to Tepeyac's events. Time: at least 10 hours a week.

General - Database Management Internet/Volunteer
Good communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary as are interpersonal skills. The ability to positively interact effectively with staff, and volunteers. Knowledge in Microsoft applications, ACCESS, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint is required. Position Description: Establish a working database on MS Access with information of corporation contacts. Work with Corporate Relations Manager and other Marketing Volunteer Team to implement the sent out mass regular mail and emails. Run an orientation session tutoring users on how to work the database. Maintain and update the database two times a week. Train user team. Hours: at least 8 hours p/w Commitment: at least two months.

Cultural development - Event Planner Internship
Help organize Antorcha Guadalupana Mexico – New York. This person will work with the cultural events coordinator and work closely with the development director to coordinate sponsors. Duties: Assist to coordinate the logistics of the event; arrange meetings with participants, and contact partner organizations that welcome the torch in every state. Visit and register groups of participants in the five boroughs. Produce informational material of the events including flyers, posters, press releases, etc. Hours: Monday to Friday (occasionally Saturdays and Sundays).

Education - Computer Literacy Program
The Computer Literacy Program is intended to help Latino immigrants to learn how to use computer and information technologies as tools for self-improvement.  The computer instructors will be responsible for teaching 4 hours a week for periods of seven weeks. Topics to be taught are Computer Principles, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, , MS Access, AutoCAD, Hardware, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, Dreamweaver, programming C#, Networking. Instructors are required to speak Spanish, as classes will be conducted in Spanish, so this could be an opportunity for volunteers to practice Spanish as a second language.

Education - English
The English Program is seeking Volunteer English Teachers who can commit to teaching 4 hours a week for a 12-week course. We are also seeking volunteers to participate in our Conversation Partnership Program. They will practice conversation with our intermediate and advanced students for 1-2 hours a week possibly in exchange for help with Spanish. Experience teaching and Spanish proficiency are not required, but are preferred. Teachers are needed throughout the five boroughs and in the Tepeyac offices on 14th Street.  By joining the English Program as a volunteer, you will be involved in a project that both equips Latino immigrants with practical English skills and empowers them by educating and informing them of their rights and resources. 

Education - GED
The GED program is looking for teachers to tutor in grammar, literature and arts, math, science and social studies.  Each subject will be taught in Spanish, as the students will be taking the exam in Spanish. The GED teachers will be responsible for teaching 4 hours a week for periods of 10 weeks, in order to prepare the students for their GED exam.

Education - After School Program, Corona (Queens), South Bronx
The program works with school age children in New York City. The program concentrates on the human, social and academic development of children and youth.

Finding Our Roots offers support in the following areas:

Academic
Tutoring in English and Spanish, helping the children with their homework and working on any problems they may have in reading, writing and math.

Cultural Artistic
In this program the children learn about the roots of their parent’s country and strengthen their cultural identity through the study of the history, the folkloric ballet and manual arts.

Physical Education
In order to achieve the holistic development of the students, the program has included courses provided by the Asociación Tepeyac soccer school to help the development of the children’s physical skills.

The After School Program is seeking Assistants who can commit to help with the development of the program in the afternoon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.
