It’s as easy as A, B, C...
A. Academics
Enhance your intellectual and personal journey, expand your
mind, broaden your horizons and gain a new perspective on life.
Learn to think and act globally.
While abroad, you will have the once in a lifetime opportunity
to become immersed in an entirely new cultural setting. Being
abroad gives you the opportunity to discover your strengths and
abilities, conquer new challenges, and solve new problems. Learn
why the Spanish steps are in Rome! See the beauty of Monet’s
Giverny gardens for yourself or walk down the streets of Dublin
where Joyce, Shaw and Wilde once lived!
Take an opportunity to give greater depth to your academic
career by making the world your classroom. Break out of the
monotony and routine of your semester and challenge your mind and
your spirit by jumping into another culture.
You can even learn a new language where everywhere is the
language lab! Give your language skills such a boost that you’ll
become a native speaker and possibly add a language minor.
B. Build A
Better World
To change the world you have to see it. The unique aspect of
St. John’s Global Studies is our commitment to service learning. In
the tradition of our Vincentian heritage and mission, each
semester-long program has a service learning component.
As a University, we commit ourselves to academic excellence but
also the pursuit of social justice and aid to the poor. As global
citizens we must seek out service opportunities all over the globe.
You will have the chance to go beyond your nation's boundaries and
help families right in their own country. Students who have worked
in soup kitchens in Rome or hospitals in Paris have gained a new
perspective on other cultures and people.
C. Competitive
Advantage
Studying abroad is an investment in your future; one that
helps distinguish you from the crowd. Employers look for
well-rounded candidates who display drive and independent thinking;
by studying abroad you can demonstrate your leadership skills.
The world is becoming more and more globalized every day.
America has invested billions in foreign countries, and companies
around the world continue to invest in the international market.
Through an employer's eyes, students who have studied abroad are
self-motivated, independent, willing to embrace challenges, and
able to cope with diverse situations. Your experience living and
studying in a foreign country, will give you the skills necessary
to negotiate in another culture, and acquire language skills that
will set you apart from other job applicants.
