The Office of Global Studies in conjunction with the Office of Multicultural Affairs is excited to present some great events for International Education Week! This celebration of global travel, intercultural exploration and diverse educational advancement represent the concerted efforts at St. John's University to reflect the increasing importance of global communication and understanding in today's world.

Becoming a Global Citizen with Chris Bashinelli (4 MVP points)

If you’re looking for a little inspiration in your life, than you cannot afford to miss this lecture! At 25 years old, Chris Bashinelli is a speaker, host of Bridge the Gap (PBS) and Executive Producer of the socially conscious production company Bridge the Gap TV. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY he has appeared on screen in projects ranging from The Sopranos (HBO) to An Inconvenient Truth Special (MTV). Thanks to his passion, charisma, and willingness to step outside of his comfort zone, Chris has become an admired speaker around the globe from the United Nations to Azerbaijan. Just recently, Chris moderated the UN International Day of Peace with Stevie Wonder, Michael Douglas and Dr. Jane Goodall. We hope to see you there!

Originating in ancient India, yoga has today become a highly popular form of exercise not only for the body, but for the mind and soul as well. Gaining international experience is essential in today’s increasingly global environment.  Learn how to use your international experience to enhance your resume and make it stand out in a stack of potential employees.  In addition to making your resume shine, find out how to use your experience abroad as the perfect conversation starter and segue into future endeavors!

International Opportunities Fair*

If you’re looking to work/live abroad or want to work in the international arena locally, this fair is for you! Meet and discuss opportunities (volunteer, teach, scholarship, employment, internship) abroad and locally with employers that have a global focus.  The Office of Global Studies will also have representatives from different programs that will be available to describe new opportunities and answer questions you have about traveling abroad in a new context. *While making your rounds at the International Opportunities Fair, be sure to pick up your International Education Week passport and have it stamped. Not only will you be earning MVP Points for this event, but you'll be collecting points to use at the Food and Culture Festival as well!

Food and Culture Festival (3 MVP points)**

Join us for an afternoon of new cultures and fine cuisine from around the world! Be sure to bring your appetite as you will be sampling everything from Latin America to South Asia. If you like trying new foods, you don't want to miss this event! 

**You will need to visit at least one vendor at the International Opportunities Fair in order to gain entrance.

Thanksgiving Jamboree (4 MVP points)

Join us for Mass from 6-7pm, with dinner and Jamboree directly following from 7-11pm. This annual Thanksgiving Dinner serves traditional food for all STJ students who do not go home for Thanksgiving. Dishes include large roasted turkeys, honey smoked ham, rotisserie chicken, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn on the cob, candied sweet potatoes, sesame chicken, vegetable lomein, mixed vegetables, spring rolls, fried rice, and much more… Open to all STJ members, but limited to 450 people.
