Serve Those in Need: Fridays in the Soup Kitchen

August 20, 2012

As a Vincentian University, we are committed to serving the needy. While many opportunities to do this are offered to students, Fridays in the Soup Kitchen  is available only for staff, faculty, and administrators.

Through the program, volunteers can choose to provide service at St. John’s Bread and Life any Friday. Responsibilities include working in the food line or the food pantry during lunch.  This is a wonderful way to assist in building community in the workplace, while also helping the poor.

Campus Ministry arranges all transportation to and from the site, as well as giving volunteers guidance and support. We gather at the Main Campus Ministry office at 9:15 a.m. and typically return to campus around 1:30 p.m. To participate, volunteers must first get approval from their direct supervisors.

If you, your department or even your lunch group is interested in reserving a spot or the entire date, we will be happy to make the necessary arrangements. Please list your first, second and third options, so that we can accommodate you accordingly.  Please f ill out the form below and return to Rafael Rivera in Campus Ministry.  You can also call (718) 990-3354 or contact Rafael  via e-mail at riverar2@stjohns.edu

We look forward to working with you throughout the semester!

“We cannot better assure our eternal happiness than by living and dying in the service of the poor, in the arms of Providence, and with genuine renouncement of ourselves in order to follow Jesus Christ."

- Vincent de Paul, Dec. 4, 1648
