School of Education Service Program in Johannesburg and Cape Town

Travel to South Africa for an incredible opportunity to serve abroad, while witnessing some of the most important historical events of the 20th century. Students will be able to gain hands-on teaching experience, while volunteering at Nkosi Haven and The Lambano Sanctuary Orphanages, as well as the Dietrich School. Further, students will visit historical sites, such as the Johannesburg-Apartheid Museum/Soweto and the Hector Pieterson Museum. Highlights will also include a Safari adventure at Kruger Game Park.

Undergraduate Course: TBD. 1 credit.

Graduate Course: EDU 102 Global Cultural Awareness. 1 credit.

Course Description: This one elective course will provide students the opportunity to gain an awareness of the various cultures within South Africa. Existing crisis intervention/prevention methods within the context of the home, school, and community will be explored. Cultural field trips as well as service learning projects will be implemented.
