Ruins in Guatemala

Gain real world experience in Pediatric Dysphagia while exploring tropical Antigua this summer!

ATTENTION: Students must contact Dr. Colodny before applying to the program.  She can be reached at colodnyn@stjohns.edu.

In the city of Antigua, students will study the anatomy and neurophysiology of normal swallowing and pathophysiology in infants and children.

On this program, you will be able to gain firsthand, practical experience with swallowing and pathophysiology in infants and young children, as well as assessment, treatment, management and models of delivery in the USA and a developing country.  Part of the coursework will include performing volunteer work at a local orphanage/hospital.

Through the volunteer work and class readings, you will gain the skills necessary to understand embryological development, normal swallowing and neurophysiology in infants and young children, the development of feeding skills, and the identification, treatment and management of dysphagia disorders.
