FOUR weeks, TWO countries, ONE eye-opening experience… Study in France and Morocco this summer!

*Unfortunately, this program has been cancelled for Summer 2013

Not only does globalization affect the way we communicate locally, it influences our place in the world and our interactions across cultures. Through this innovative program, students spend time examining the concepts and history of human rights in Paris—a city long at the forefront of the movement—then finish their program in Morocco with an exploration of intercultural communication. While examining the varying impact of globalization on Moroccan and French culture, you’ll come to see how culture, communication, and human rights connect.

What better way to understand culture and its impact on human rights and communications than by experiencing it first-hand?

Undergraduate Courses:

  • RCT 1155: Language and Intercultural Communications
This course weaves together the social and human-environment interactions. It will define and evaluate the strengths and barriers to intercultural communication and the implications of globalization on Moroccan culture. Through field studies and encounters with the locals, students will have a chance to experience first-hand the ways that other cultures communicate, and hence reflect on their own cultural assumptions.
  • HIS 3161: History of Human Rights in France
This course will examine the history of contemporary human rights and will allow students to consider how the language of human rights emerged from religions, social, cultural, and international shifts. Through onsite lectures, trips, discussion, and readings students will explore how the modern human rights movements emerged from humanist debates, anti-slavery movements, suffrage and women’s rights, anti-colonial movements, political rights, and worker and economic rights.
