Dining abroad is an important way to engage in the authentic
culture of your host country! The food is local, so
students may not find traditional American staples, like chicken.
For instance, fish and pork are very common in Spain and may be
prepared differently than some Americans are used to. Learning the
local food culture is a great way to deepen your connection to your
host country, so be sure to try something new!
Students participating in one of St. John's University's
semester programs will receive a meal plan while they are abroad,
which is covered by the program fee. Each city offers a unique meal
plan, designed to allow students to travel on weekends and engage
with their host countries. It also encourages students to travel to
neighboring European countries to explore other food cultures. For
example, you can spend the weekend in Belgium sampling their
world-famous waffles!
Generally, semester meal plans abroad offer breakfast +
either lunch or dinner four days per week. Details
concerning food options and meal times will be available during the
on-site orientation.
