All Roads Lead to Rome!
Spend a semester in Rome and earn credit towards your history degree!

 Did You Know?

  • The Roman Empire once spanned three continents?
  • Piazza Navona was once a race track used for chariot races?
  • Ancient Romans used to flood the coliseum with water to have navel battles?
  • During the construction of Rome's new metro line, they had to repeatedly stop because they kept running into Ancient artifacts?

There is no better way to learn about history than by standing in the very spot where history took place. Rome is one of the best cities in the world to make this happen with its abundance of ancient structures and thriving culture.

With this philosophy in mind, the History Department is pleased to offer two new course additions to the Discover Italy curriculum. Students will be given the opportunity to discover Italy's ancient and medieval history through in-class discussions and site-visits throughout the city.

This program was created with History majors and minors in mind and caters directly to their academic requirements. Students will be able to fulfill some of their  "Non-Western" and "European" course requirements in addition to taking general core classes such as philosophies and theologies. Students from other majors who have a keen interest in Roman history are also welcome to apply.

For additional course details, be sure to visit the Course Descriptions page or contact   Dr. Tracey-Anne Cooper.

Eligibility Requirements:  We strongly encourage History majors and minors to take part in this program, which allows you to earn major credit while studying with the university’s top faculty in one of the world’s great historical centers. Other majors are also encouraged to apply if they have an interest in Roman and Medieval history.

Application Deadline:  Applications will be reviewed on a first come first served basis until program is full  (Visit the Apply Now  page for more details.)

Program Fee, spring 2013: $7,990* (tuition and airfare not included)
Students should also expect to spend  €30-50 on course-based trips throughout the city.

* For spring 2013 only, History majors and minors will receive a $500 discount on the program fee!
