Michael Whorton has been a part of the St. John’s Paris Campus
team since October of 2010, when he took on the role of Coordinator
of Student Life. Since then, he has transitioned to his current
role Residence Director. Among Michael’s responsibilities are the
daily smooth functioning of the residence and general upkeep of the
campus.
A native of Orono, Maine, Michael moved to France in 2005 after
completing his undergraduate studies at Gettysburg College in
Pennsylvania. He received his Master’s degree from the Université
de Haute-Bretagne in Rennes in 2010 and worked as an English
instructor before joining the St. John’s staff. Michael says that
he has long had a passion for teaching and helping young people,
and working at St. John’s gives him a unique opportunity to work
with, and learn from, students who may have backgrounds that are
different from his own.
Michael’s love for the “City of Light” stems from its global reach:
“Like New York, Paris is a worldly city. It has an identity all its
own.” He also appreciates the city’s proximity to vastly different
regions of France, and encourages traveling students to try new
things every day: “Make an effort to put off anything you can do at
home until you get back there!”
