Through St. John’s partnerships with local institutions, you’ll
enjoy unparalleled access to the educational and cultural resources
around you. You’ll interact with local students, enjoy privileges
at local libraries and make use of computers and other
technological facilities.
You’ll spend five weeks in each location. Taught in English,
your courses will focus on Spanish language and literature as well
as Latin American culture and art. As you travel to three different
locations in Latin American, you’ll notice the unique
characteristics distinguishing the Caribbean, Central America and
Mexico.
Come Explore Latin America
In Puerto Rico, you’ll explore the museums of Old San Juan
as you learn about the island’s history. In Costa Rica, you’ll
marvel at the biodiversity in a butterfly farm outside San Jose;
indeed, you may even be lucky and see the famous three-toed sloth.
Finally, Mexico’s remarkable mix of indigenous and Colonial
cultures will impress you as you experience the city of Puebla.
Classroom experiences are a starting point for your own personal
explorations of these remarkable places. Among many other topics,
you’ll learn about Costa Rica’s biodiversity; explore México’s
remarkable mix of indigenous and Colonial cultures; and examine the
rich arts, music and museums of Puerto Rico’s capital city.
As with our Discover the World: Europe program Discover the
World: Latin America features the innovative, modular class format
that splits your 15-week semester into three, five-week sessions.
This way, you’ll have one or two courses in each city, allowing you
to fully concentrate on and absorb your course work.
