As a rule, museums are open from 9 or 10 a.m. until 5 or 6 p.m.
Others open later and close at 8 or 9 p.m. Closing days are usually
Monday or Tuesday, with a few exceptions. Some are even open seven
days a week, such as some of the major monuments which can even be
visited as late as 11 p.m. or midnight. Many French museums and
monuments remain open late at least once a week, until 9 or 10 p.m.
Every first of the month, museums are free.
Centre Pompidou (Beaubourg)
Cultural center with a Modern Art Museum inside. Open every day
except Tuesdays and May 1, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Exhibitions open until
9 p.m. and late night opening until 11 p.m. on Thursdays and
Fridays for certain exhibitions.
Le Louvre
The biggest museum in the world. The museum is open from 9 a.m. – 6
p.m. every
day except Tuesday. It is open until 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday and
Friday evening. Admission to the Louvre is free on the first Sunday
of every month.
Le Musée d’Orsay
Dedicated to Impressionism. You will find in its very interesting
architecture (it used to be a train station) all the famous
painters who represented this important artistic period.
Le Grand Palais
International exhibitions are held here.
Palais de Tokyo
Just beside another very important museum of contemporary art (le
Musée d’Art Moderne de la ville de Paris), le Palais de Tokyo has
no permanent collection but exhibits young and creative artists
from all over the world. Nice view of the Eiffel Tower from the
very modern cafeteria and its terrace. And so many others, but you
will have the opportunity to discover most of them during our
walking tours and make your choice to visit the ones that interests
you.
