September 2007--Associate Professor of Management, Charles Wankel, together with James A.F. Stoner of Fordham University, have produced a book entitled, Innovative Approaches to Reducing Global Poverty. The focus within the pages of this new title is how to reduce poverty through commitment, involvement, and leadership of individuals, for-profit business, and nonprofit organizations. Some of these approaches may look promising now at their current level of success but will turn out to be limited in their scalability or in their ability to sustain themselves and endure over time.
The innovative programs and projects described in these chapters are reducing poverty not just in Bangladesh, India and Kenya, but also in the UK and the USA. They remind us that poverty is everywhere and exists in both developed and under-developed countries. The book also supports CK Prahalad's work made available in a number of his writings, including his very influential book The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid: Eradicating Poverty Through Profits (Wharton, 2004).
Innovative Approaches to Reducing Global Poverty was published by IAP - Information Age Publishing in Charlotte, NC this past summer. Additional information about this title may be found at www.infoagepub.com.
