Specialized Workshops

 

In addition to the our other programs, we also offer specialized workshops to address specific needs within the insurance industry and the business community as a whole.

Often these programs can also be customized by our industry experts to accommodate the needs of corporate clients, and can be delivered either at a client's location or in one of the Center's classrooms at 101 Murray Street, near the heart of the financial district in Manhattan. 

For the Fall 2012 session, these courses are:

  • Certificate in the Business of Insurance
    In an increasingly competitive business environment, people who continually acquire new knowledge and improve their skills maintain a considerable advantage. The Center for Professional Education at St. John’s University has developed the Certificate in the Business of Insurance for individuals who wish to expand their breadth of knowledge of the insurance industry. This program provides a comprehensive overview of the major concepts and areas of expertise that are the fundamental aspects of the industry. 

    The Business of Insurance will meet on four Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., starting October 4. This program can also be tailored for corporate clients who wish to expose their employees to specific aspects of this complex industry.
    This course carries 15 Continuing Education credits for all lines. Fee: $1,895 including course materials.

  • Advanced Course in Marine Liabilities
    This 12-week program, which is part of our Certificate in Marine Insurance, is designed to expand the knowledge of marine insurance with specific emphasis on marine liabilities. By providing a practical approach to understanding and analyzing marine liability exposures and specialized insurance protections, the program is designed to appeal to both newcomers to the marine insurance industry as well as those already experienced in the field. Underwriters, claims handlers, brokers, attorneys or those directly involved in the management of various marine operations will benefit from this course.


    The Advanced Course in Marine Liabilities will meet on Tuesday evenings, from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm starting February 14.

    This course carries 15 Continuing Education credits for the BR, C3, PA and PC licenses. Fee: $1,445 including course materials. 
     
  • Certificate in Workers Compensation
    This 12-week program is designed to provide detailed foundation knowledge concerning this important coverage. The curriculum identifies and explores how the various pieces of the workers compensation "puzzle" fit together, including history, coverage areas, claims, risk management, and pricing, among others. 

    Students who complete the course and pass an additional examination will be qualified for the Workers Compensation Professional (WCP) designation.

    The Certificate in Workers Compensation meets on Mondays starting September 24, from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm.  

    The course carries 15 Continuing Education credits for the BR, C3, PA, and PC licenses. Fee: $1,895 including materials.

     
  • Brief Course in Reinsurance: A One-Day Intensive
    This course is intended for those individuals who need to know the basic elements of reinsurance and how it functions, without the technical material. Administrative and accounting personnel, systems analysts, human resources and other non-reinsurance professionals will benefit from taking this course.

    The Brief Course in Reinsurance meets on Wednesday, October 31, from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. The course carries 7 Continuing Education credits for the LA, C1, C3, BR, PC, and PA licenses. Fee: $795 including materials.
