St. John’s University will hold its Tenth Annual President’s
Dinner on Thursday, October 25 at The Waldorf=Astoria Hotel in New
York City. St. John’s President Rev. Donald J.
Harrington, C.M. will host what has become the University’s
premier fundraising event. Last year the President’s Dinner
generated a record $2 million.
Generosity received from the President’s Dinner directly
benefits St. John’s University’s more than 20,000 students
(enrolled at five campus locations – Queens, Manhattan, Staten
Island, Oakdale, New York and Rome, Italy) in the form of
scholarships and other types of financial assistance.
One of the highlights of the black tie event is the presentation
of the prestigious Spirit of Service
Award to exceptional individuals who have lived their lives in
accordance with the Vincentian philosophy of caring and concern for
others, values that have served as the foundation of the St. John’s
mission for 138 years. This year’s honorees include Elizabeth
Mirante and Arthur J. Mirante II, Esq. ’68L, ’98HON, President,
Global Client Development, Cushman & Wakefield, Inc.; Patricia
M. Shea ’83C and Brian T. Shea ’83CBA, President and Chief
Operating Officer, Pershing LLC, and Eleanor B. Taffner ’94HON,
Secretary and Treasurer, DLT Entertainment Ltd., and Donald
L. Taffner ’53C, ’89HON, Chairman, DLT Entertainment Ltd.
The Tenth Annual President’s Dinner, the largest single annual
event at the Waldorf, will offer guests an opportunity to reflect
upon the University’s past decade of unprecedented achievement
while looking ahead to a future filled with unlimited
potential. Most former Spirit of Service Award honorees
from previous President’s Dinners will be in attendance to
celebrate with Rev. Harrington and the St. John’s University
community, adding a decidedly New York touch to this exceptional
Lesley H. Collins ’83SVC and William L. Collins ’76C, Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer, Brencourt Advisors LLC, will serve as
2007 Dinner Co-Chairs, and Mary P. Tobin ’00HON and Peter J. Tobin
’65CBA, ’96HON will serve as Honorary Chairs for the former Spirit
of Service Award honorees.
