The United Auto Workers union has set a deadline of tomorrow
morning to reach a new contract with Chrysler LLC and has
threatened to strike if a new deal for almost 49,000 U.S. employees
is not reached by that time.
Chrysler's UAW workers are likely to be still skeptical of
Cerberus' intentions and wary of the potential for it to pull back
from its U.S. manufacturing operations, said David Gregory,
professor of labour law at St. John's University.
"I think there's going to be real apprehension here on the part
of the union," he said.
