Two weeks after walking out on General Motors Corp. to speed
contract negotiations, the United Auto Workers is threatening to
strike Chrysler LLC as early as Wednesday for much the same
reason.
David Gregory, a labor law professor at St. John's University in
New York, said the real danger is not simply a strike at Chrysler
but that what's intended as a short walkout could escalate if the
automaker's new owner, private-equity firm Cerberus Capital
Management, sees an opportunity to wring more concessions from the
UAW.
