Dr. Irene N. McCarthy
Professor of Accounting and
TaxationProfessor Irene N. McCarthy holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education,
Accounting, from New York University and is currently registered as
a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York.
She obtained her audit experience with DeSantis & Prinzi (now
DeSantis, Doxey, Giovianzzo & Prinzi) and provided consulting
services to that firm. Professor McCarthy has written
frequently in the field of financial accounting and ethics
education as well as appearing on CNBC World News as a business
ethics expert. She has written ten articles in peer-reviewed
journals and has presented several papers, eleven of which were
published in the proceedings of those peer-reviewed academic
forums.
Professor McCarthy was appointed by the Regents of the
University of the State of New York to serve as a Board Member of
the New York State Board of Public Accountancy, of the Department
of Education, Office of the Professions. Professor McCarthy chairs
the Education Committee and serves as a member of the Licensing
Committee and the Discipline Committee. She was elected
President of the Staten Island chapter of the New York State
Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) and became a
member of the General Committee on Higher Education and Entry to
the Profession. At the statewide level she served in several
capacities including: Treasurer, Executive Committee Member and
Director, and Trustee - Foundation for Accounting Education.
Her executive committee appointments included: Audit Committee,
Budget Committee, Budget Oversight Committee, Investment Committee
of New York State Society Funds, Continuing Professional Education
- General Committee, and the Continuing Professional Education
Committee, Subcommittee of the Foundation for Accounting Education
(FAE). She also served as a member of the AICPA Council,
which is its policy-making governing body.
Professor McCarthy is the recipient of the 1998/99 NYSSCPA Dr.
Emanuel Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education, the Distinguished
Faculty Award, NYSSCPA, the Paul S. Lomax Business Education Award
and the "Best Article - 1994 business publication award from New
York University, the 2000/2001 Teaching Excellence Award from the
Tobin College of Business and the University's Faculty Outstanding
Achievement Award and its Outstanding Teacher of the Year
Award.
