Dr. Liaw holds his Ph.D. from Northwestern University. He is the author of several books on investment banking and financial markets.  His recent book publication is The Business of Investment Banking: A Comprehensive Overview, second edition, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2006.  He also recently published an article on China’s accession into the WTO and China’s financial markets.  In addition, Dr. Liaw has published in the areas of capital markets, insurance, banking, repurchase agreements, and risk management. He is an associate editor for Review of Pacific Basin Financial Markets and Policies.

Dr. Liaw’s principal areas of teaching and research interests include asset management, capital markets, risk management, and investment banking. His current projects include risk management for financial institutions, equity and fixed-income trading strategies, and China’s financial markets.
He served as president of the Chinese American Academic and Professional Society for 2005. He is a director of a bank. Dr. Liaw serves as an advisor to financial firms. He speaks on various subjects of investment banking and capital markets at academic institutions, executive programs, the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation conference, the World Bank symposium, Harvard China Review conference, and Information Management Network conference.
