Stanley Lawson

Professor of Economics and Finance

Before joining the faculty at St. John's, Dr. Lawson worked at the United Nations Headquarters in New York for sixteen years, he was an Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director for Neighborhood Development Board of Greater New York for two years, a Special Assistant to the Mayor of Montego Bay, Jamaica for three years, and before that, he served a short stint as Cub Reporter for the Daily Gleaner and Radio Jamaica. His Ph.D. in International Trade and Economic Development is from New York University where he also received his MA and BS. Professor Lawson organized and developed an educational training program for the People's Republic of China officials and has extensive expertise in the new economic industrial zones. He visited the PRC in 1984 and 1985 to direct the training courses.

Professor Lawson has written six books, 35 chapters in books, 50 articles in technical magazines, Business Reviews and monographs, and more than 300 presentations and papers at professional conferences and international symposiums. He is President of the Caribbean and Far East Consultant Group, President of the Coronaldi Primary School Development Fund, Chairman of the Board of Directors Caribbean Diaspora Press, Consultant Global Management Solutions (United Nations), Director North American Economic and Finance Association, United Nations Association of Greater New York, Director and Program Chair Society for Policy Modeling, American Economic Association, Global Awareness Society International, Educational Consultant to the PRC Educational Authorities (Shandong Provinces), and occasional consultant to governments as well as a member of many other Boards of Directors. He is one of the leading experts on NAFTA. His works have been cited in scores of publications and books. Dr. Lawson is a frequent guest commentator on radio and television programs and has traveled to more than fifty countries around the world.
