Dr. Adrian P. FitzsimonsProfessor of Accounting and
Taxation
Professor Adrian P. Fitzsimons, holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the
New School for Social Research and is currently registered as a
licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York. He
is also a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Certified
Management Accountant. He has served as Chair of the Department of
Accounting and Taxation since 1998. Professor Fitzsimons has
published 110 articles in such peer-reviewed journals as:
The
CPA Journal, Bank Accounting & Finance, Commercial Lending
Review, The Practical Accountant, Review of Business, National
Public Accountant, The Journal of Accounting, Finance and Taxation
for Business, and
The Journal of Corporate Accounting and
Finance. He has authored a book on auditing and has
written ten chapters in various books and two monographs. He has
presented his research at various international and regional
conferences and has been published in the proceedings of those
forums.
Professor Fitzsimons obtained his audit experience at Touche
Ross & Company (now Deloitte & Touche) and the firm of
Robert Irving, CPA. He was engaged by the American Institute
of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) as a consultant to assist
the Stockbrokerage and Investment Banking Committee in writing the
Audit and Accounting Guide: Brokers and
Dealers in Securities. He was also a member of the
Commodity Guide Task Force of the Stockbrokerage and Investment
Banking Committee where he assisted in the preparation of the
Practice Aid: For Audits of Future Commission
Merchants, Introducing Brokers, and Commodity Pools (i.e.,
level "d" GAAP). He was a member of the Stockbrokerage and
Investment Banking Committee from 1998 until the AICPA reorganized
its committee structure in 2000. He was a member of several
committees of the New York State Society of CPAs including the
Commodities Committee, the Securities Industry Committee, and the
SEC Committee and is President-elect of the Queens Chapter of the
NYSSCPAs.
Professor Fitzsimons was retained as a consultant by
Deloitte & Touche between 1986 and 2004 where he served
in their financial services audit practice in various consulting
capacities. He serves on the board of the New York
Metropolitan area chapter of ISACA and as a member of the Finance
Committee of Notre Dame Parish since 1997 and has been the
recipient of the University's Faculty Achievement Award, annual
Faculty Merit Awards (from 1991 up to and including 2002) and
annual Faculty Research Awards (from 1997 up to and including
2005).
