Richard Bennett, M.B.A., M.A.

Assistant Professor, School of Risk Managment

Richard L. Bennett presently holds the Met Life Teaching Chair in Risk Management. In this capacity, Professor Bennett teaches BBA courses as well as six sections leading to the professional designations of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM).

Professor Bennett has extensive experience in the Risk Management and Insurance field having held management positions in underwriting and claims (medical malpractice, products liability, and general liability). He has additionally designed and conducted seminars in Risk Management for such diverse groups as American International Group (Insurance Essentials), Samsung Insurance Groups, Seoul, Korea (Risk Management and Insurance); Southeast Europe Insurance Group (Risk Management); The Institute of Management, Paris, France (Foundations of Risk); the Japanese Postal Workers Group (Personal Lines) and recently a 17 day Group Development Program emphasizing the integrated nature of insurance operations for XL Insurance Group (Bermuda).

In addition to this technical Risk Management and Insurance experience, Professor Bennett has consulted on many business management oriented fields, to include time management, interviewing skills, communication skills, negotiation techniques, and group dynamics for The New York Times, The Association of Black Educators, The Board of Education, The Academy of Finance, and D.C. 37.

Professor Bennett taped a videocassette on "Tracking the Premium Dollar" for Reliance Insurance Company and is annually engaged in doing teaching and group facilitation for the Risk Management/Insurance Teacher Education Workshop. This funded program trains high school teachers from all over the country on how to effectively instruct on business and the nature of risk.

Professor Bennett holds an MBA and BBA from The College of Insurance and Finance, and an MA from Queens College in Media Studies and Communication. Furthermore, he holds the following eleven risk management professional designations: CPCU, ARM, ARe, AIC, AU, AMIM, AAI, API, ARC, RPLU, AIM

Finally, Professor Bennett is the proud recipient of eight "Professor of the Year" awards from students he has instructed.
In addition to his current courses, he is willing to tailor a seminar to specific company requirements.
